Sisters in Service of Southwest Georgia is a grassroots organization comprised of a group of nonprofits and Faith-Based organizations collaborating as Community Partners, serving Civic and Voter Engagement in Southwest Georgia Rural Counties.  #BuildingRuralPower In 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, all activities were halted by every major nonprofit nationwide. With big hurdles to climb in the unknown, these Community Partners organized by the various sororities, Civic & Social women organizations to include (Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Order of Eastern Star, American Legion Women, and Local Faith-Based women leaders who brought innovation and creativity to the table.   The ultimate goal was to ensure that rural citizens were registered, and votes were cast by absentee or In-Person during the Primary and General Elections while social distancing. In 2023, Sisters in Service of Southwest Georgia, Inc. received 501c3 status through the IRS as a registered nonprofit in Georgia.  The Organization is structured with a Board of Directors for governance and a team of volunteers with an intention to focus on building capacity in the next generation of leaders. Serving the rural needs of Schley, Webster, Stewart, Marion, Sumter, and North Lee Counties has gone far beyond Civic & Voter Engagement. These counties’ populations range from 2,400 to 29,000, totaling approximately 50,000. The organization's impact has warranted an extended reach into Chattahoochee, Terrell, and Crisp Counties.
